Guido van der Werf is professor of global carbon cycle and landscape fires at Wageningen University & Research. He aims to understand interactions between fire and the climate system using techniques ranging from local measurements of smoke composition using drones to global-scale modelling based on satellite data. He is one of the developers of the Global Fire Emissions Database (GFED), fellow of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), recipient of prestigious grants from the ERC, NWO, and KNAW, and a highly cited researcher since 2014.
