Philippe CIAIS is a senior researcher at LSCE who coordinates the CALIPSO project. He is the author of more than one thousand peer-reviewed publications including many in high profile journals, a highly cited scientist in Geosciences and Ecology. Philippe CIAIS studied Physics at Ecole Normale Supérieure and obtained a PhD in glaciology. He has developed atmospheric inverse models of greenhouse gas fluxes using isotopes to infer the distribution of the land carbon sink. Over the last two decades, he worked on terrestrial greenhouse gas fluxes for natural and cultivated ecosystems using the ORCHIDEE model, and developed new parameterizations for fires, permafrost carbon and grassland management. PC co-chaired the Global Carbon Project (GCP), the Carbon Strategy of the Group on Earth Observation, and acted as Convening Lead Author in the 5th IPCC Assessment Report.
