Wei Li

Wei Li is an associate professor in Department of Earth System Science at Tsinghua University. He has been working on terrestrial carbon cycle with a special focus on tropical forest degradation and land-based climate mitigation options. His research combines satellite observations and Earth system modelling to investigate the interactions between land ecosystems and climate change under human land uses. He quantified the carbon emissions from oil palm plantations in Southeast Asia and from fire and edge effects in Africa and revealed the importance of biophysical effects of tropical moist forest degradation. He also developed the bioenergy crop modeling in an Earth system model and analyzed the carbon removal and climate feedback of large-scale bioenergy crop cultivation.
